Network?Synchronization Analysis Reveals the Weakening Tropical Circulations

چکیده
The impact of climate change on extreme weather is one the most concerning problems. Climate could cause more frequent and unexpected weather. Still, synchronization features under are not fully understood. Here, we develop a network approach to study global patterns events based 500-hPa geopotential field. We find that positive event (PES) associated with tropical circulations in tropics; negative large-scale atmospheric Rossby waves mid-latitudes. By studying temporal evolution PES network, strengths tropics weakening relation slowing down circulations. Furthermore, our results show strength Africa Atlantic Ocean decrease faster than other regions.

Direct weakening of tropical circulations from masked CO2 radiative forcing.
Climate models robustly simulate weakened mean circulations of the tropical atmosphere in direct response to increased carbon dioxide (CO2). The direct response to CO2, defined by the response to radiative forcing in the absence of changes in sea surface temperature, affects tropical precipitation and tropical cyclone genesis, and these changes have been tied to the weakening of the mean tropic...

[1] The forced secondary circulation (FSC) by the vertical shear of horizontal winds is isolated from the latent heating and friction FSCs associated with a model-simulated hurricane vortex. This is achieved by use of a newly developed potential vorticity inversion and quasi-balanced vertical motion equations system. Results show that latent heating forces intense updrafts in the eyewall and sl...
متن کاملTropical atmospheric circulations with humidity effects.
The main objective of this article is to study the effect of the moisture on the planetary scale atmospheric circulation over the tropics. The modelling we adopt is the Boussinesq equations coupled with a diffusive equation of humidity, and the humidity-dependent heat source is modelled by a linear approximation of the humidity. The rigorous mathematical analysis is carried out using the dynami...
متن کاملTropical Atmospheric Circulations: Dynamic Stability and Transitions
In this article, we present a mathematical theory of the Walker circulation of the large-scale atmosphere over the tropics. This study leads to a new metastable state oscillation theory for the El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO), a typical inter-annual climate low frequency oscillation. The mathematical analysis is based on 1) the dynamic transition theory, 2) the geometric theory of incompres...
متن کاملGlobal Warming and the Weakening of the Tropical Circulation
This study examines the response of the tropical atmospheric and oceanic circulation to increasing greenhouse gases using a coordinated set of twenty-first-century climate model experiments performed for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Fourth Assessment Report (AR4). The strength of the atmospheric overturning circulation decreases as the climate warms in all IPCC AR4 model...
